Ashley Gilbreath on the brass bed that has been handed down through generations.
Ashley Gilbreath is a southern-based interior designer who studied at Auburn University and the New York School of Interior Design. Her fresh take on the industry can be seen in Southern Living, House Beautiful, LUXE, Coastal Living, Country Living, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyle, and in homes from Florida to New York. She is renowned for creating casual, elegant spaces where the family can gather to celebrate everyday living.
A Family Heirloom
The brass bed that is now in Ashley’s daughter’s room was originally in the home of Ashley’s grandparents, who were married in 1907.
It’s a bed that is as well traveled as Ashley’s family: starting out in Tennessee and traveling from Arkansas to Kentucky to Wisconsin to California to Louisiana to Florida and now to Alabama, where it has pride of place in Ashley’s daughter’s room.
There are bound to be stories surrounding an object that has been in a family for 5+ generations: Ashley’s dad told her a story about jumping on the bed with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and throwing it in the air when the sandwich then got stuck to the ceiling!
When Ashley was a young girl, the bed was finished in that overly polished brass that was ubiquitous in the 1980s. Eventually, her mother removed the lacquer, which is how it is now.
The Urban Farmhouse Bed
Our Urban Farmhouse Bed is similar in style to Ashley’s family's bed, which is no surprise given the classic lines, perfect proportions, and solid construction. It’s built to last generations and can be custom-built to your specifications. It also comes in a brass or iron finish.
